Whatever methods we use to teach skills and knowledge at the professional stage involve us in many assumptions about how we learn professional skills, knowledge and values, what we learn and why, and what we expect students and trainees to do with that learning. ,

Great words Kevin! Yes, I think internet radio probably is the way forward, at least, radio in the sense of last.fm, spotify etc., as the long tail capability of these services allow people to listen to the music they want to and utilise 'collective intelligence' when recommending music. There is an almost democratic nature to these services, by that I mean, the recommendation algorithms are impartial and will suggest music based on an objective measure of popular artist in your 'taste network'. Services like Spotify will be the winners in this era, as well as the real music fans.

Yea I agree, venture capital companies and distributors have fled from the music recording industry. Making it very difficult for small record label to compete with institutions for market share. Record companies buying up thousands of their own releases the first week creating a false since of success. Radio stations seeking revenue must decide against their creativity in seek of revenue. Thus failure looms and nest in this very same fear just to give birth to more fear. Thus we hear the same market target songs five times in 3 hours, Internet Radio may be the last frontier. But fear not the younger generation will demand better and obtain it. I can see the claws marks of big industry on the plank of the big ship they themselves have built, We are the future.
